International Academy of Columbus (IAC) is a community school established in 2002. The school is a public, tuition free school serving grades kg to 8, with plans to serve up to 10th grade. All curricula at International Academy of Columbus are currently aligned with Common Core for Mathematics and English Language Arts. Teachers are using Ohio’s New Learning Standards for Social Studies and Science.

Because of the high number of Limited English Proficiency (LEP) students, we offer a strong English as a Second Language (ESL) program and Math and Reading intervention sessions. We also have a number of bilingual instructional assistants who assist    Limited English Proficiency (LEP) students by translating in the classroom, if needed, and by tutoring students individually or in small groups outside of the classroom.  A unique aspect of our curriculum is an Arabic language program for all grades and we have plans to add Spanish enrichment classes in the future.

We believe that schools are second homes where children’s character and cognitive development are cultivated, and that teachers and staff members are the agents who make such development possible.  Our staff  serves as role models demonstrating positive examples for students.

The nurturing academic environment at the school is cultivated through elements such as small class sizes, personal teacher-student attention, instruction to meet the needs of each student and a physically and psychologically safe friendly environment.
