Overview:

In 2010, the state of Ohio was awarded Race to the Top grant monies.  Race to the Top (RttT) is a reform program initiated at Federal level and administered by the U.S. Department of Education.  At  International Academy, a committee of stakeholders and teachers team together to implement programs, develop interventions and plan professional development for teachers to increase the effectiveness of teacher instruction.

This federal reform program focuses on four key areas:

  • Adopting standards and assessments that prepare students to succeed in college and the workplace;
  • Building data systems that measure student growth and success, and inform teachers and principals how to improve instruction;
  • Recruiting, developing, rewarding, and retaining effective teachers and principals, especially where they are needed most; and
  • Turning around their lowest-performing schools.

For questions about the Race to the Top grant- contact Brianne Rollo- rollob@iac-school.com or 614.844.5539 (Program Coordinator).

Current Update:

  • The PTO fundraising bake sales have been very successful.  The PTO has raised enough funds to pay in full for our first ever school wide carnival coming in May 2012.    Our next PTO meeting will be Wednesday, April 4th at 3:45 PM in the library.  There is a $4 membership fee per person to give the PTO some money to start out.

  • IAC has begun to learn about formative assessments, and how to assess progress in those areas that are currently not tested by the state.  We anticipate having a staff wide insrvice in May 2012 on this content.

2010/2011 School Year:

In the 2010/2011 school year, IAC formed a Parent Teacher Organization (PTO).  This is a tradition within American schools that gives structure to family involvement in the lives of their students and their school.  IAC's PTO prepared a school store that was opened for the start of school in Autumn 2011.   Additionally, two solid partnerships with local universities were established.  These universities have a deep history of training teachers and their partnership will leverage IAC to both recruit highly qualified quality teachers to our staff and access cutting edge research to use in direct instruction of students.
